Selecting Your Building Designer

The complexity of modern buildings means that building design is so much more than just putting a few rooms together and adding a roof. Ever changing legislation, changing lifestyles, changing trends and environmental issues need to be addressed by an informed building designer.

Good design is the keystone to any building and the importance of selecting a building designer who suits your particular requirements is imperative.

The first consideration is to find someone with whom you feel you can easily communicate with. Designing your home is a personal experience that explores your unique lifestyle ensuring that your specific needs are met.

Enquiries to BDAWA are welcome. If you are looking for a building designer for your project, we would ask a number of questions to identify the best designer to suit your needs.  Considering the project, style (for example contemporary or traditional), size and location – the contact details of three designers would be offered. If they are too busy or you want some more names, we are happy to help.

Before you make an appointment with a designer it’s a good idea to be prepared. Compile a folder of photos of certain elements of design and materials and finishes that appeal to you. A list of must haves and likes is also helpful. After interviewing you your building designer will then compile a detailed brief to work from.

When selecting your designer, it’s a good idea to ask to look at some photos of their projects or ask for some addresses to visit. Pricing should also be discussed.
When engaging a building designer, you should always request a written contract that clearly explains the scope of work for your project.
